Turonian, C1, C1a, C1b, C1c

Province:
Central W Tajik

Type Locality and Naming

Includes in Hisar-Zarafshan ranges, and Obisafit, Turkparidin, Chakykalya typesections

Synonym: Upper Cretaceous Deposits

Reference section:

Lithology and Thickness

The deposits considered here as Upper Cretaceous have been insufficiently studied, although their sections, apparently, do not differ in principle from other sections of the Turkistan and Zarafshan-Gissar regions. In general, these are colorful clays, sandstones, and limestones with conglomerate layers, thickness 100-500 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Clayey sandstone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

They lie conformably on the deposits of the Lower Cretaceous.

Upper contact

They are overlain with an unconformity by the Akdjar Fm of the Paleocene.

Regional extent

In the Turkistan and Zarafshan-Gissar regions, the undifferentiated Upper Cretaceous is identified in the extreme eastern parts of their territories, in the basins of the Pitaoukul, Karagushkhona rivers, etc.
